Ivana Urso’s new body of work, “BEYOND WHITE” marks a new territory following the artist’s more than twenty-year investigation into the circle. Moving away from the circle’s defining geometric structure, Urso now turns her attention less to form itself than to the trace it leaves on the surface and the space it creates. Painting thus moves beyond a defined image and becomes a field of movement between emergence and disappearance.
In this series, white is not a neutral ground but an active and constitutive element of the painting. Lines, marks, layers, and erasures intermingle across the white surface rather than simply completing one another. Some traces become more pronounced while others recede; at times, only the trace of a movement remains, at others, an incomplete form. Urso’s paintings therefore do not offer a definitive image, but create permeable surfaces in which the gaze is continuously repositioned.
“BEYOND WHITE” begins not where the circle ends, but where it transforms into another language. After twenty years of investigating form, the artist proposes a more open, fluid, and time-based approach to painting in place of geometric wholeness. What remains is less a particular form than its memory; less a completed image than a movement that continues across the surface. Ivana Urso’s “BEYOND WHITE” exhibition will be presented as part of Flaneuse Mag’s online exhibition program from AUGUST 24 to 31, 2026.
